there has to be a better way

Posted by dturn on May 30, 2007

When I look at all the violence that has went on my area this month and I see young and old people that are still alive (walking) but seem lifeless, it makes me think that there has to be a better way.

Men and women who think that living together, buying a house together, having children together, without being married is a good idea.

There has to be a better way.

Young guys who think that selling drugs or killing someone is the way to get somewhere in life.

There has to be a better way.

Churches who think that everyone who is not the same color as them or don’t belong to the same denomination, are not living Holy and are on their way to hell.

There has to be a better way.

Sure somethings require a boat-load of commitment and energy.
The end result will be a satisfying one and it will bless you and those around you.

Somethings look and sound good.
But who really wants good?

God has the best in mind for all of us.

There really is a better way.

never changes

Posted by dturn on May 28, 2007

“Dear President Jackson,

The
canal system in this country is being threatened by a new form of transportation
known as “railroads” . . .

If the canal boats are
supplanted by railroads, boat builders would suffer, and towline, whip, and
harness makers would be left destitute . . .

God never
intended that people should travel at such breakneck speed.”

Sincerely,

Martin Van Buren
Governor, State of New York, 1829

Whether we like it or not, change happens.
Transportation, buildings, food and even methods of ministry change.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, it changes.

Thank God there is one thing that will never change.

We can always depend on our heavenly Father to remain the same.
Even when everything thing fades into the darkness of the dust, His word remains the same.
He will never turn His back on us.
He loves us.

i’m confused

Posted by dturn on May 26, 2007

I’m confused.
This morning I read in the Chicago Sun-Times about a anti-gun rally held at a Catholic church.
Minister Louis Farrakhan was at this rally and he had some interesting things to say:

1. “I am a muslim and I am a Christian”

This is one of the craziest things that I have ever heard.
I know that to the naive listener this sounds very warm and welcoming. We’re all one in God’s eyes, right?

To be a Christian is to believe that Jesus died and was raised from the dead for our salvation.
It also means to live your life for Christ.

Muslims don’t believe that.

2. “Islam believes that the bible is a sacred book”

The bible is God’s inspired word given to man.

I wouldn’t have so much of a problem with this if it wasn’t spoken at a church, endorsed by pastors and ministers.
I guess this is a wake-up call to people like myself.

It’s time to start criticizing by creating.

I want

Posted by dturn on May 24, 2007

I want to make an IMPACT on my family.
I want to make an IMPACT on my community.
I want to make an IMPACT on the world.

Life is only worth living when you’re living out your destiny.

I feel like I was born for this moment in time.

fathers day

Posted by dturn on May 23, 2007

Fathers Day is next month ( a day after my birthday) and I am thinking about the blessing of fatherhood.

It is a joy and a great responsibility to be a father.
I don’t always get it right but I try my best to be a good father.

I want my sons to see me as an example of what a Godly father looks like.

I have lots of room to improve.
I hope my wife and my sons are patient with me.
I love you guys.

May book of the month

Posted by dturn on May 17, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Margaret Feinberg’s new book The Organic God, has shaken me at my very core.

Margaret reveals a pure, uncontaminated look at our heavenly Father.
As you dive into the pages of this book you will see how God is multi-dimensional but at the same time very simple.
Through religion and tradition we have polluted the view of how God should be seen.

Margaret’s personal reflections gives her readers the o.k. to explore a deeper relationship with God.
Isn’t that what we all want anyway?

It’s great to know that we can use all of our senses and our faith to experience all that God is.

I HIGHLY recommend this book!!

what time is it?

Posted by dturn on May 15, 2007

Looking at the Chicago Sun-Times today, on the front page there is an article about a recent shooting on a city bus in Chicago.
Read it here

It is amazing the times we live in where life is taken for granted.
When the youth of our world think nothing of their own lives and the lives of others, we have a serious problem.
The biggest problem is really that this issue hasn’t just started.
It has gotten worse but it isn’t new.

I hope this can be an opportunity for the church to get involved and let the love of Christ be made into a REALITY for our kids.

Let’s not turn this into another civil rights-type situation.
Marching and singing are cool but lets try to understand whats going on in the minds of our kids.
Let’s get down from our pedestals and platforms and learn to embrace our children.

It’s not too late.
Is it?
