“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.”

Psalm 139:23-24

One of the things that separate the “one-hit wonders” from those with long-lasting success is character.
Character is often defined as doing what’s right, even if no one is looking.
A person with good character is thought to be dependable and trustworthy.
It is our responsibility to represent ourselves in the best way possible.
The president of your company and the janitor should be able to see that you can be relied on at all times.

“People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.
Eleanor Roosevelt

God, I desire to please You in every area of my life. remove any barriers that would keep me from experiencing all that You have for me. I will strive to live each day with the focus of fullfilling my purpose and blessing everyone that comes my way. I look forward to a long life, full of victories and accomplishments. My future is in Your hands.
Amen.

it’s not over

Posted by dturn on May 23, 2008

It’s been an interesting week here at Turned Out

I hope that we can continue this discussion and actually get something done about it.
Too people are saying “I know, I know”, but they aren’t willing to do anything to solve the problem.

I understand that the Whiteboard Sessions were great.
I pray that all who were there will use what they learned to impact our world for Christ.

I also pray that we ALL can come together and show the world what heaven is going to be like.

peace

how to be a p.l.a.y.a hater (pt. 2)

Posted by dturn on May 21, 2008

How do we hate?

We hate by Living Right

Living right means not being swayed by popularity.
Just because someone can draw a crowd, doesn’t mean that we should be included.
We should make quality decisions and strive to not be double-minded.
We should always live with integrity and honor, no matter what the cost.

Those who are lukewarm are sitting on the fence.
They are neither here nor there.

We hate by Loving Right

Loving right means that we love ourselves.
We must realize that we are made in the image of God (that’s a big deal).
We deserve the best that life has to offer.
We are the temple of the Holy Spirit (the Holy Spirit wants to live in us).

Loving right means that we love God.
We should be thankful for all the God has done for us.
Great men thirsted after God (Moses, Paul)
We should always seek after God.

Loving right means loving our neighbors
Especially those we can’t stand.
We should show kindness at every opportunity.

whiteboard sessions (part 2)

Posted by dturn on May 21, 2008

I’ve been thinking about my post yesterday about the Whiteboard Sessions.

I don’t want my thoughts to misconstrued at all.
I have a real appreciation for church leaders of ALL nationalities and colors.
I believe that we can all learn from one another.

I don’t want to criticize just to be critical.
I want to criticize by creating.

Creating a new conversation (might be an old one to some)
Creating a new platform.

Why do we have to repeat the old patterns?

I’m calling for anyone (black, white, Hispanic, Asian, man, woman) who wants a move toward more diverse conversations and conferences to contact me:

Let’s do this!!!

whiteboard sessions

Posted by dturn on May 20, 2008

There is an interesting conference coming up this week in the D.C. area.

The Whiteboard Sessions is put on by Ben Arment.
He has some great speakers lined up

Mark Batterson
Perry Noble
Tim Stevens
Vince Antonucci
John Burke
Ed Stetzer
Darrin Patrick
Mark Dever

The main problem I have with this conference is it’s lack of diversity.
Diversity in the ethniticity of it’s speakers.

While I have nothing against Ben or the presenters (I have some of their books), I just will be glad when the day arrives where we can see a broad range of pastors, communicators, and musicians.

When will that day come? Soon I hope.

By the way, I’m just as frustrated with the conferences that are majority (almost all) black.
They aren’t really helping things either.

What do you think?

help

Posted by dturn on May 19, 2008

I get to travel all over the country for my job.
This year already I’ve been to San Diego, Atlanta, and Las Vegas (5 times!!).
This week I’m in Orlando.

Every since I got this job 8 years ago, I have wanted to connect with people in each city.
Unfortunately, I have really sucked at this.

I use the excuses that I am too busy, too tired, or too whatever to hang out and get to know other people.
My wife has often reminded me that I need to get it together (thanx sweetie).

Here’s the deal.
I am in New York City twice next month.
If anyone has any suggestions for me to visit a church, etc. please let me know.

I’m going to do this, for real this time 🙂
